Validian Supports NASD Guidance Regarding Instant Messaging

National Association of Securities Dealers Inc. (NASD) Guidance for Instant Messaging Regarding Record Keeping Obligations and Supervision can be Facilitated by Validian's Secure Instant Messenger

OTTAWA, June 23, 2003 (PRIMEZONE) -- Validian Corporation (OTCBB:VLDI), an international provider of communication security technologies, is pleased to confirm that its Secure Instant Messenger (SIM) system can enable NASD members to comply with the Guidelines regarding Instant Messaging as presented in a recent news release by Mary L. Schapiro, NASD Vice Chairman and President of Regulatory Policy and Oversight. SIM supports NASD record keeping and corporate supervision guidance.

Regarding record keeping guidance, (SEC Rule 176a-4(b)(4) and NASD Rule 3110), SIM can automatically provide an unalterable history of all exchanges between all SIM users. All messages are encrypted using a unique session key known only to the originator and the recipient, which ensures the authenticity of messages. Message content cannot be decrypted or altered by any source during transit.

Regarding corporate supervision, SIM provides a closed community of authenticated and trusted users. No rogue user can penetrate SIM or send messages to any SIM community member. SIM users are uniquely identified and authenticated in the SIM domain controller, which enables management to identify positively each external and internal user of SIM and to authorize or deny the possibility of communicating with any other user. SIM messages can be filtered by commercial filtering software to ensure conformity with content management guidelines for the NASD members and their staff, prior to a message being sent or after the reception of a message.

SIM offers the highest level of security available for real-time communication and file exchange, real-time features for collaboration between individuals and groups, including synchronous and asynchronous collaboration and enterprise-wide presence. Both messages and files, which can include video and audio files, are encrypted by SIM and are exchanged in full security. SIM is specifically targeted at environments requiring real-time communication between businesses and their customers in a secure and collaborative manner.

SIM does not impose any extra burden on the Information Technology infrastructure, as it includes the components necessary to maintain secure connections across and between firewalls.
