NETGEAR Expands Line Of 802.11g-Compliant Wireless Networking Solutions

WGE101 54 Mbps Wireless Ethernet Bridge and WG311 54 Mbps Wireless PCI Adapter Enable Wireless 02.11b and 802.11g-Compliant Network Connectivity for Desktops and Ethernet-Enabled Devices

SANTA CLARA, Calif., June 30, 2003 (PRIMEZONE) -- NETGEAR, Inc., a worldwide provider of technologically advanced, branded networking products, today announces the expansion of its 802.11g-compliant family of wireless networking products with the launch of the WGE101 54 Mbps Wireless Ethernet Bridge and the WG311 54 Mbps Wireless PCI Adapter. The WGE101 and WG311 are designed to increase productivity and network flexibility by providing high-speed wireless network connectivity to Ethernet-enabled devices and desktop computers.

The WGE101 54 Mbps Wireless Ethernet Bridge features the capability to link Ethernet network enabled devices such as gaming consoles, PCs, and Internet radios to the wireless network. The WG311 54 Mbps Wireless PCI Adapter gives wireless connectivity and location flexibility to desktop computers within 802.11b and 802.11g networks. With both products, users are relieved from the need to run unsightly Ethernet cables through their home or office.

"An increasing number of innovative Internet-enabled products are emerging in consumer electronics that take advantage of home wireless networks to allow new applications such as video-streaming and multi-player gaming," stated Kartik Gada, Product Line Manager at NETGEAR. "The WGE101 enables users to provide high-speed wireless connectivity to devices having only an Ethernet jack, such as gaming consoles and Internet Radio, at the high data throughput rate of up to 54Mbps. For desktop systems, the WG311 Wireless PCI Adapter enables users to place their computers where it is most convenient by enabling them to wirelessly access the network at high-speed, with no additional cables."

WGE101 54 Mbps Wireless Ethernet Bridge

The WGE101 54 Mbps Wireless Ethernet Bridge provides access to an existing 802.11g wireless network and comes with a powerful detachable antenna that provides greater range and more coverage than previous generation 802.11b devices. Installation is plug-and-play, enabling users to partake in their multi-player gaming or access their Internet radio right away. To turn on security, powerful 40/64 and 128-bit WEP encryption can be activated through a browser user interface. The WGE101 can also be connected to an FS605 switch for connecting with multiple Ethernet devices, eliminating the need for additional wireless adapters.

WG311 802.11g Wireless PCI Adapter

The WG311 802.11g Wireless PCI Adapter provides wireless connectivity for desktop computers to the home or office network. The WG311 provides 40/64 and 128-bit WEP encryption and supports Virtual Private Network (VPN) pass-through and features dynamic rate shifting to provide fast connections in a variety of environmental conditions. The WG311 is fully compliant with the 802.11b and 802.11g wireless networking standards, and will operate in either type of wireless network.

Both the NETGEAR WGE101 54 Mbps Wireless Ethernet Bridge and WG311 802.11g Wireless PCI Adapter are backed by a three-year warranty and 24/7 technical support, and will be available in June 2003 via retailers, direct marketers, e-commerce sites, and value-added resellers at an estimated retail price of $129.95 for the WGE101 and $89.95 for the WG311.
