Metro International Mortgage Mandates use of Validian's Secure Instant Messaging for all IM Exchanges

OTTAWA, July 9, 2003 (PRIMEZONE) -- Validian Corporation (OTCBB:VLDI), an international provider of communication security technologies for networked environments, today announced the full-scale implementation of its Secure Instant Messenger (SIM) system in Metro International's production environment. SIM becomes Metro's standard for securing and archiving instant messages.

"Most of our messages have confidential information and cannot be exchanged through commercially available e-mail or instant messenger systems. As part of our business, we need a fully secure communication method to prevent any security breach," said John Vincent, chief financial officer for Metro. "We have been testing SIM and, today, we mandated that all of our business partners use Validian's secure communication system to exchange messages with us."

Metro International Mortgage Inc. is a venture capital and portfolio management company, serving an international clientele since 1995. This commercial venture positions Validian in the financial services sector, which includes commercial banks, investment banks, venture capital companies, stockbrokers and insurance companies.

"Extensive tests have convinced Metro that our solution is the most secure and very cost effective," said Dr. Andre Maisonneuve, president and chief executive officer of Validian. "Metro were rigorous in their testing methodology and assessment of their total cost of ownership. Officials from Metro use SIM to recognize and to authenticate every person before communication takes place, thus protecting messages from hackers, and protecting users from other unidentified or unauthorized sources. During the testing period, none of the messages exchanged through SIM were ever lost and all messages were archived in standard history files."

Validian's SIM system offers the highest level of security available for real-time communication and file exchange. SIM performs encryption of both messages and attachments within its own operation, so that data never travels in the clear at any point in time. It offers real-time features for collaboration between individuals and groups, including synchronous and asynchronous collaboration, enterprise-wide presence and messaging. Within a SIM exchange, all participants are authenticated and messages and files of any size and of any type, including video and audio files, can be transferred with full security.

Validian's Application Security Infrastructure (ASI) addresses the requirement for secure transport of data, for authentication of participating entities, and for establishment of a strong level of trust between these entities. SIM benefits from all the security features of the ASI infrastructure. ASI is particularly valuable in securing distributed applications operating over distributed networks. ASI automatically manages all critical security functions between any applications, including authentication, encryption, key generation, key distribution, addressing and data transport. SIM and ASI are software-only solutions, easy to install, manage and use. They allow organizations of all sizes to enjoy the benefits and flexibility of secure communications between applications, without the traditional costs and pain imposed by alternate solutions.
