WOODLAND HILLS, Calif., July 15, 2003 (PRIMEZONE) -- Northrop Grumman Corporation's (NYSE:NOC) Navigation Systems Division (NSD) has been awarded a U.S. Navy support contract, potentially worth more than $49 million over four years, to provide for the repair and retrofit of naval avionic systems and subsystems for the Naval Inventory Control Point (NAVICP).
"This contract with the NAVICP continues a long-term relationship with Northrop Grumman in supporting the fleet's needs," said David Scher, director of aftermarket products at Northrop Grumman NSD.
The new contract includes repair or retrofit to the H-60F Seahawk's antisubmarine warfare, datalink and doppler system; H-3 Sea King's tactical/navigational system; F-14 Tomcat's converter interface unit and computer signal data converter-replacement; EA-6B Prowler's digital display group; E-2C Hawkeye's antenna receiver, transmitter and control display unit; and the S-3B Viking's communication control group and related support equipment.
"As part of the contract agreement, Northrop Grumman will offer reduced turnaround time for select repairs as needed to meet changing fleet requirements. The company will also provide regular feedback to the customer, including recommendations to increase fleet readiness through reliability enhancements and technical insertions," Scher added.
With approximately 3,000 employees, the NAVICP is the largest field activity of the Naval Supply Systems Command (NAVSUP). It procures, manages and supplies spare parts for naval aircraft, submarines and ships worldwide. NAVICP is responsible for more than 400,000 items of supply, $27 billion of inventory and annual sales of $4.2 billion. It has two locations, one in Philadelphia, the other in Mechanicsburg, just outside Harrisburg, Pa.
The primary mission of NAVSUP is to provide U.S. naval forces with quality supplies and services. Headquartered in Mechanicsburg, Pa., NAVSUP employs a worldwide workforce of more than 24,000 military and civilian personnel. It oversees logistics programs in the areas of supply operations, conventional ordnance, contracting, resale, fuel, transportation and security assistance. It is also responsible for quality of life issues for our naval forces, including food service, postal services, Navy exchanges and movement of household goods.
Based in Woodland Hills, Northrop Grumman's Navigation Systems Division provides situational awareness for the defense and commercial markets. It offers integrated avionics, inertial navigation and guidance systems, satellite electronics, identification friend or foe (IFF) systems, smart displays, fiber-optic sensors and systems, and logistic support products and services.
