Emulex Host Bus Adapters Qualified for Use with StorageTek BladeStore

COSTA MESA, Calif., and LOUISVILLE, Colo., July 15, 2003 (PRIMEZONE) -- Emulex Corporation (NYSE:ELX), the leading supplier of storage networking host bus adapters (HBAs), and StorageTek(r) (Storage Technology Corp., (NYSE:STK)) today jointly announce that the Emulex LightPulse 2Gb/s LP9002L and the PCI-X LP9802 HBAs are qualified to provide host server connectivity for use with StorageTek's BladeStore disk subsystem(tm) running in the Windows 2000 operating environment. The Emulex LP90002L is also qualified for use with BladeStore in the Windows NT and Solaris operating environments.

This qualification of Emulex HBAs for use with the innovative BladeStore disk subsystem reinforces the two companies' dedication to providing the highest levels of storage area network (SAN) interoperability, features and performance for enterprise-class customers. The Emulex 2Gb/s LP9002L and LP9802 HBAs offer a hardware-independent driver architecture, which provides compatibility with all previous HBA generations, enabling customers to seamlessly upgrade features and migrate to 2Gb/s SANs. Furthermore, the Emulex LP9802 PCI-X HBA is backwards compatible with existing 1Gb/s and 2Gb/s Fibre Channel PCI installations.

"StorageTek's BladeStore disk subsystem offers a great market opportunity in the disk-based storage arena, and Emulex's HBA architecture and feature set continues to add value by complimenting our solution," noted Tim Steadman, StorageTek Director, Corporate Alliances. "Our relationship with Emulex enables us to extend our reach to a wider market with innovative products such as BladeStore, while remaining equipment agnostic."

StorageTek's BladeStore disk subsystem provides a new alternative for economically deploying high capacity disk-based storage to protect customers' business critical information, or provide fast access to frequently accessed fixed content. BladeStore is a robust disk-based storage system for open systems environments; offering performance, enterprise-class reliability and availability, extreme storage density and scalable capacity at an affordable price point.

"Emulex continues to work closely with StorageTek to ensure interoperability and deliver robust, high performance solutions. We are confident that customers will benefit from the implementation of our HBAs," said Mike Smith, executive vice president of Worldwide Marketing for Emulex. "Emulex's sophisticated HBAs deliver best-in-class features and functionality, and the Company continues to lead the market with robust connectivity solutions for both disk and tape storage systems."

The Emulex family of HBAs offers firmware-based architecture and operating system driver compatibility across Emulex's entire HBA product line, which provides customers with a simplified upgrade path, reduced management complexities and also ensures a lower total cost of ownership. The Emulex LP9802 and LP9002L HBAs are fully compatible with drivers that support Emulex's new centralized HBA management suite, HBAnyware, which incorporates driver-based technology to enable complete management of Emulex HBAs and the ability to upgrade firmware anywhere in a SAN from a single console.
