The Killer Inside -- New Novel Features Regular Guy Battling the Mob

ROSELLE, Ill., July 15, 2003 (PRIMEZONE) -- The streets are hard and can claim any life, no matter how affluent. A successful businessman must battle the Chicago mob as they attempt to strong-arm him out of his corporation in the new novel, Into an Unseen Distance (now available through 1stBooks), by Jim Arneberg.

Arneberg takes his readers into the dank underworld of organized crime in this novel reminiscent of Elmore Leonard, James M. Cain, Quentin Tarantino and the Sin City graphic novel series by Frank Miller. Jack Fallon had the good life with a successful business, a home on a golf course, a Cadillac parked in the driveway, two well-adjusted children and a bombshell of a wife. That which takes a lifetime to build can crumble in seconds, however. The Chicago mob infiltrates his business. His chain of restaurants will make a perfect front for them to launder their drug money.

When extortion fails to force him to step to the side, his family is kidnapped. Jack is forced into the harsh world as he compromises his values, enduring the consequences of murder, rape and slavery. A dark, brutal side of his personality emerges in the grimy night, as he careens through the garbage-littered streets of the Windy City from mosques to the Southside slums searching for his family.

With surprises around every corner, Into an Unseen Distance is a gangster novel filled with the grisly violence that characterizes America's underworld.

Arneberg was born in Chicago. He grew up amid the turbulent whirlwind of Chicago's Southside. Into an Unseen Distance is his first novel. Two sequels entitled A Long Drop to Eternity and A Man is What He Hides are currently in production.
