The Clash of Blood Sky and Corn Child -- Author's heritage and love of history inspiration for new fiction

SCHOMBERG, Ontario, July 15, 2003 (PRIMEZONE) -- Award-winning poet Judith Ennamorato is more than a prosaic wordsmith. She is also an avid history buff and is fascinated by her Mohawk heritage. A combination of both inspired her newest book, entitled Blood Sky (now available through 1stBooks), a fictional story about a French girl and the daughter of a Mohawk chief, raised as twins in a Mohawk camp.

The girls' ill-fated connection began at birth. Entering the world in the same moment, the girls -- one, named Blood Sky, was born to Chief Black Whirlwind and Dancing Leaf at the Mohawk camp, and the other, named Eve, was born to Jacque and Jeanette Langevin in the French settlement of Ville Marie -- may never have met had the Mohawk tribe not picked that very moment to attack in an attempt to regain their land and freedoms.

Baby Eve is taken from her village and her parents are slaughtered. Renamed Corn Child, she becomes Blood Sky's "twin" sister. Though the fair-skinned child never knew the culture from which she was robbed, Corn Child is, nevertheless, an outcast, wildly jealous of her sister. The blonde child's hatred runs so deep she spends much of her time plotting her sister's demise.

Rebellious and indifferent, Corn Child commits an act more serious than murder in the eyes of her camp members: She consults Dark Shadow, a black magic witch, for advice about her despised sister. Jaded, Corn Child escapes and returns to Ville Marie, where she becomes the mistress of the governor of New France. Again, she meets her twin. This time, Corn Child commits the "ultimate act of revenge" against Blood Sky.

An authentic depiction of Mohawk culture and social interaction, Blood Sky is evidence of the havoc a cycle of retaliation and retribution wreaks on those involved -- especially the innocent. Skilled in her subject, Ennamorato tells a powerful story of two cultures unwilling to co-exist due to fear and obstinacy and illustrates how historical events influence the actions and beliefs of future generations.

Ennamorato is a parapsychologist and lecturer. She was Canada's first to teach a university course in metaphysics and is the author of two books, Intuition: Success Strategies and Sing the Brave Song, and several short stories and poems.
