Finding Inspiration From the Bible's Women -- New book offers poetry, Bible passages pointing to the powerful females of the Bible

RANCHO PALES VERDES, Calif., July 15, 2003 (PRIMEZONE) -- Bible readers know who the Virgin Mary is. What about all the other women of the Bible? In author Alma E. Blanton's new book, God and Mrs. Adam (now available through 1stBooks), she has compiled her works of poetry, inspired by the stories of the female energy in the Bible.

Using Scripture passages, she writes about women ranging from Eve to Lot's daughters to the mothers of biblical men. Pulling from ancient stories and famous text, Blanton's book weaves these women's stories with the lives of the American woman today.

"EVE represents woman-kind. But her first son murdered his brother. Do you feel her pain? Tamar was widowed by two brothers and seduced her father-in-law. What is she doing in the lifeline of Christ? How does her story differ from the Egyptian who tried to seduce Joseph? The Samaritan woman is widely called a prostitute. Why? The Bible doesn't say that. Mary of Magdala saw the risen Christ. Again people say prostitute. The Bible doesn't. A woman was taken in 'the very act' of adultery. Where was the man? The Bible says 'bring both'," writes Blanton.

God and Mrs. Adam is meant to inspire today's women and provide doctors, ministers and other people who work with women with a source of guidance. Excerpts have been published in two women's magazines and a major religious publication, prompting a controversial response.

A fresh look into the females of the Bible, God and Mrs. Adam is a creative work of guidance for those in need. The author hopes women will have "the sheer joy of knowing that Michelangelo painted Eve in the other arm of God."

Blanton was accepted in the "Universal College of Work to Eat" at 17. At 19, she married and had two daughters. Today, she hopes her writing will help women find their "feminine soul mate" in the Bible.
