RESTON, Va., July 15, 2003 (PRIMEZONE) -- Northrop Grumman Corporation (NYSE:NOC), the U.S. Army and EER Systems will dedicate a new logistics complex in Chester, Va., today. The logistics support complex houses two facilities central to the Army's goal of bringing Web-based logistics to the warfighter: the National Operation Center -- a Northrop Grumman facility -- and the Logistics Information Systems (LIS) Integration facility, which is managed by EER Systems, a division of L-3 Communications. The complex is located in the Rivers Bend Industrial Complex in Chester.
Highlighting Tuesday's program will be keynote remarks by Kevin Carroll, program executive officer, Enterprise Information Systems, U.S. Army, followed by tours of the National Operation Center and the LIS facility.
The National Operation Center migrates data, tests applications, manages training and fielding and supports Property Book Unit Supply Enhanced (PBUSE) users throughout the world. PBUSE, the first Web-based logistics system used by the Army, replaces two functions of the current logistics suite, the Standard Army Management Information Systems.
The integration facility has 15,000 square feet of storage area and distributes equipment and software for LIS, including all legacy, PBUSE and Movement Tracking Systems (MTS). MTS, which offers mobile satellite technology for tracking and communicating with supply vehicles, recently relocated its program management office to the logistics complex.
With this center, the Army achieves greater efficiency in communications and access, improved business procedures and reduced cost of logistics without reducing warfighting capability.
"The creation of this center establishes the Fort Lee area as a center of excellence for logistics information technology. This campus will become the nucleus of the Army's log systems transformation," said Col. Stephen E. Broughall Jr., who has served as project manager, Global Combat Support System-Army (GCSS-Army), and program manager, LIS, since 1999. "It is a remarkable achievement by the LIS/contractor team that the Army's most complex IT system in development is happening right here, right now."
Northrop Grumman's Mission Systems sector is the prime contractor for the GCSS-Army, the first logistics system in the U.S. military with Web-based integrated support. As one of the largest enterprise resource planning programs attempted in the Army, GCSS-Army will replace 13 existing logistics automated systems with one fully integrated enterprise management system that will also significantly enhance interfaces among other Army and joint command and control systems.
As the prime contractor, the sector provides systems integration and information technology services for the GCSS-Army program. It was also recently selected to serve as prime contractor on the Logistics Decision Support System for the Army future combat system (FCS), one of several Northrop Grumman FCS awards.
