An Inspiring Story, A Philosophical Gem -- New book tells of one man's immigration from Africa to New York and struggles during his journey

NEW YORK, July 16, 2003 (PRIMEZONE) -- In a rare, in-depth piece of philosophical fiction, author Kofi Amouzou writes the inspiring story of a man named Dansou who moves from his beloved country in West Africa to New York. As Amouzou outlines the events that occur in Dansou's life, he offers profound bits of philosophy the reader can draw on for years to come in The Voice of Talisman (now available through 1stBooks).

His philosophical outlook, coupled with his African storytelling style, makes The Voice of Talisman a captivating book with immeasurable insight. Dansou's home country is ruled by a dictatorship, which has the backing of the Western World. He moves from his small village to New York and overcomes life's unexpected struggles.

"'On a road of confusion, fear and uncertainty it may sometimes be wise to just go with the flow in the light of your heart, ease your mental tension, and loosen the tightness of your mind,' the Talisman advised."

Different from other books on the market that tell stories of bravery and inspiration, this book goes further by weaving fiction with philosophy, while drawing on the author's own experiences. The book's editor, Sue Avery of Oneonta, N.Y., had this to say about Amouzou and his work: "Kofi is a philosopher. No event of his character's life but invokes inspection. Blessed with innate integrity, he confronts whatever hand is dealt him with stubborn aplomb, a strong inner voice directing him."

The author was born and raised in a small village in a former French colony in West Africa. He earned a bachelor's in sociology from the University of Togo (in his native country). He immigrated to New York, where he graduated with a master's degree in tourism and management at New York University. He also studied international relations and comparative societies at the Fondation Des Sciences Politiques in Paris. This is his first book.
