SAN DIEGO, July 23, 2003 (PRIMEZONE) -- Northrop Grumman Corporation (NYSE:NOC) will continue supplying the U.S. Navy with systems that provide vital information during network-centric warfare. The Navy selected the company to provide software life cycle maintenance and technical development for the common data link management system (CDLMS), command and control processor (C2P), and rehosted command and control processor (RC2P) software systems.
Northrop Grumman's Information Technology (IT) sector provides engineering support for the program under contract to Space and Naval Warfare (SPAWAR) Systems Center, San Diego. The base year of the five-year contract is valued at $4.1 million. The additional four option years bring the potential total value to more than $22.5 million. Northrop Grumman IT has supported the C2P program since 1989.
"The systems we support enable network-centric warfare, which helps provide critical real-time situational awareness to support Navy commanders during operations," said Barry Rhine, president, Defense Mission Systems, Northrop Grumman IT. "The U.S. Navy and coalition partners use them on more than 100 platforms, including aircraft carriers, AEGIS ships and amphibious ships."
Life cycle maintenance and development for the CDLMS, C2P, and RC2P programs includes implementation of tactical digital information links (TADIL). The systems are among the few data link communication systems in the world that have received joint certification as a forwarder of Link 16, Link 11, Link 4A and satellite TADIL J. They also support data forwarding; concurrent operation on multiple links including concurrent multilink air control; and theater ballistic missile defense.
The CDLMS and RC2P stress efficiency and maintainability and use open systems design and commercial-off-the-shelf hardware. This effort also includes review and analysis required to update and improve existing documentation.
Work on the contract is performed at the SPAWAR site and Northrop Grumman IT in San Diego. Subcontractors to Northrop Grumman IT include Syncrotech Software Corporation and SAIC, both of San Diego.
