Stories Woven Together to Create Tapestry of Death's Pursuit -- Book of short stories touches on variety of characters with overriding theme of mortality

MANASSAS, Va., July 25, 2003 (PRIMEZONE) -- In A New Kind of Beautiful (now available through 1stBooks), a collection of 13 unique short stories, 19-year-old author M.I. Ghazi offers a work with colorful characters that vary widely in personality and experience. However, they all must deal with their own mortality. Ghazi's work, intriguingly original and thought- provoking, tells the details of his characters, while drawing the reader into the theme of birth, death and life.

Death's pursuit visits all, Ghazi writes, but the ways in which it comes to people are drastically different in style, location and tone. "If you look at the timeline of any man or woman from a long enough distance, pretty soon only two points become visible: birth and death. Therefore, A New Kind of Beautiful deals with life by default -- because quite simply one is meaningless without the other," the author writes.

His story "Therapist, Apparently" touches on a man's intense affection for a co-worker, while "Sensible Robot" tells of an anticipated scientific breakthrough. A young boy performs a heroic feat inside a shopping mall in "Common Jerk Superstar;" a woman unknowingly runs for her life in "The Dial Tone Diaries;" and "Oil of Klonji," follows a supermodel, Sonya, who finds herself at a climactic peak atop the Eiffel Tower in Paris.

In an eerily captivating story of paranoia, a happy couple moving in to the suburbs is told a cryptic message by the real estate agent, leaving them with the vague information that something unseen is there in "The Men Who Watch Behind the Mirrors."

A New Kind of Beautiful illustrates the depths of humanity and the talent of this young, up-and-coming author.

Ghazi, 19, has published two books, including another book of short fiction, Heliotrope Stories. He has also won numerous awards for his writing. An avid poet and lover of analytical essays, he is currently studying journalism and is working on his first novel.
