A New Addition to the 2003 PECO Energy Multicultural Series, the Russian Mosaic Festival at the Great Plaza at Penn's Landing

PHILADELPHIA, July 28, 2003 (PRIMEZONE) -- Celebrate Jewish, Russian, Ukrainian, Moldavian and Central Asian cultures as part of the Russian Mosaic Festival. The Russian Mosaic Festival is a new addition this year to the PECO Energy Multicultural Series at Penn's Landing. This FREE Festival will take place at the Great Plaza at Penn's Landing, on Columbus Boulevard at Chestnut Street on Sunday August 10, 2003, from Noon - 8:00 p.m. Independence Blue Cross is the presenting sponsor of the 2003 Summer Season at Penn's Landing.

The Russian Mosaic festival has an exciting day planned, packed with music, dance and entertainment. The band "Boian" will perform popular contemporary Russian songs and the vocal and dancing duo "Puno" will feature Russian Pop music. Other artists featured at this year's Festival will include Vladimir Lapin performing Russian romances and Mark Sobol's group will perform Russian, Jewish and Kleizmer music in jazz interpretation. Russian dancing will also be a highlight in this year's event, as the Russian Ballet of Olga Kresin, the Academy of Creative Learning "Pochemuchka" (meaning: one who asks why?) and "Rising Stars" Arts Center dance troop perform.

In addition to the music and dancing, Russian, Jewish, Georgian and Moldavian cuisine will be available. Popular Northeast Philadelphia restaurants "Paradise" and "Golden Gates" will participate as food vendors selling authentic Russian and Georgian dishes. "Liliya's Continental Cuisine" from Cherry Hill, specializing in Moldavian cuisine, will also participate in the festival. There will be several artisans presenting traditional Russian crafts including woodcarvings and paintings.

This free event is presented by PECO Energy and many other non-profit organizations including: The Creative Collective Arts Center, Russian-Americans Chamber of Commerce for the Greater Philadelphia area and Mid-Atlantic - Russia Business Council. Kabala Learning Group and Russian Christian Mission will represent different aspects of the rich and diverse spiritual life of the community. This is the first year of the festival as the participants hope to publicize the importance of their community's culture in the Philadelphia region.

Reaching out to the diverse communities is a goal for PECO Energy and for the past ten years, this has been a huge success at Penn's Landing. "All of us at PECO Energy are thrilled to return to the waterfront with our 10th Anniversary season of support for the multicultural festivals," said PECO president Dennis O'Brien. "Penn's Landing is a Philadelphia summertime tradition and the PECO Energy Multicultural Series is a fun way for us to celebrate the wide range of diversity represented in our service territory."
