Are There Flowers on the Moon - New Book of Poetry Draws on Poet's Experiences in Life, Love and Nature

FLUSHING, N.Y., July 29, 2003 (PRIMEZONE) -- "To be a poet is a condition rather than a profession," well-known British poet and novelist Robert Graves once said. It seems, poets are born, striving to render verses to the page from their own experiences. It is a condition Barbara Ann Cicalese understands and showcases her works in her new book, Are There Flowers on the Moon? (now available through 1stBooks).

"I have put my heart and soul into these poems and they are all taken from real life experiences," she says.

Cicalese presents Are There Flowers on the Moon?, a poetry book filled with small ponderings and dissertations on life, love and nature. Formed together by verse and theme, her book is "a mystical journey into the heart and mind of a poet," she notes. Each has been rendered with a degree of simplicity and beauty by the poet's hand and mind.

From poems such as "For the Trees," a celebration of nature, to her love poems, which flutter around the subjects of love lost, tasted and unrequited, the author brings her own color experiences to the black and white page.

There are poems of memory and musing, like "Vienna," in which she reflects on a time she and her lover bicycled around the Austrian capitol: "Remember the calm of the weather/ And the height of the trees around twisted paths?/ We spoke of our faded childhood/ In fluttering symbols that the wind blew past," she writes.

Love, life and nature are the essence of humanity and are the messages and themes shared in Cicalese's compilation of poetry.

The author was born and raised in New York. She began writing at age 12, drawing on the inspiration of Edna St. Vincent Millet, Walt Whitman, Edgar Allan Poe and Christina Rossetti. Her poem, "Written for my Grandmother" has appeared in the book Soft Parade. She currently lives and works in New York. Are There Flowers on the Moon? is her first book.
