What in the World is God Doing? -- Author helps readers unravel the mysteries of the Bible from a non-denominational slant

PLACERVILLE, Calif., July 31, 2003 (PRIMEZONE) -- Who or what is God? Where was God on Sept. 11, 2001? These are just some of the provocative questions Jack M. Lane addresses with his new book, What in the World is God Doing? An Introduction to the Mind of God (now available through 1stBooks).

"If you have ever wondered what the Bible is all about, if you have ever pondered what great plan God is working out here on earth, if you have ever questioned your place in the universe, if you have ever speculated if there is a meaning for life and a purpose for existence -- this book is for you!" Lane writes.

Lane demystifies the Bible using simple and straightforward language. The book focuses on God's word, taking the reader directly to Bible passages and examining them "without the 'rose colored glasses' of traditions, customs, doctrines, and dogmas." Lane details who and what God really is and analyzes humanity's relationship with God.

Written for religious and nonreligious readers alike, What in the World is God Doing? details the best approach to understanding the Bible, divulges the meaning of the covenants and the gospel message, and examines the relationship between sin, law and grace. Lane also tackles a tough question many opposed to religion use to favor their debates: If God is so great, why does he allow suffering, pain and death?

From the evolutionary theory to the steps to becoming a true Christian, the information and questions addressed in the book run the gamut of issues believers and non-believers have pondered for centuries. With his book, Lane makes sense out of the confusing language, characters and events in one of the world's most famous religious works.

Lane has studied the Bible for more than 35 years and is an elder in his church. He and his wife, Marty, have five grown children, several grandchildren and one great-grandchild. He and Marty are active in the home schooling movement and oversee many home schooling families in the counties surrounding their home in Placerville, Calif. Though What in the World is God Doing? is Lane's first published book, he worked previously as the editor, publisher and chief author of "The WAY" Christian newsletter and currently runs an online resource for Christians at www.livingtheway.org.
