Emulex PCI-X Fibre Channel HBA Selected For HP AlphaServer Series

COSTA MESA, Calif., Aug. 5, 2003 (PRIMEZONE) -- Emulex Corporation (NYSE:ELX), the world's leading supplier of storage networking host bus adapters (HBAs), today announced that its LightPulse 2Gb/s LP9802 PCI-X Fibre Channel HBA has been selected by HP as a storage connectivity solution for the HP AlphaServer GS and ES server series. The Emulex LP9802 (HP model #FCA2384) fully complements the HP AlphaServer GS series, a powerful and scalable enterprise solution which includes the recently announced high-end GS1280 systems, and the AlphaServer ES series, which delivers mainframe performance at mid-range pricing for customers who demand robustness and industry-leading features.

"IT managers require server product offerings that ensure business continuity within high-performance data storage environments, and the combination of Emulex HBAs and HP AlphaServer systems ensure delivery of robust solutions," said Mike Smith, executive vice president of Worldwide Marketing for Emulex. "Emulex continues to work closely with HP to provide connectivity solutions that support and enhance HP's AlphaServer, NAS and SAN solutions, further underscoring our ability to provide best-in-class HBAs to the storage networking industry."

Emulex's award-winning LP9802 PCI-X HBA within HP AlphaServers provides high levels of interoperability, features and performance for enterprise-class customers migrating to next-generation PCI-X-based systems. Emulex has a longstanding OEM relationship with HP spanning more than five years and an installed base of more than 300,000 HBAs in HP-deployed SANs. Emulex HBAs offer connectivity for a wide range of HP server and storage solutions, including the HP NAS 8000 and Tasksmart N-Series NAS solution, HP StorageWorks Modular SAN Array and Enterprise Virtual Array, and HP's ProLiant and Itanium(r) 2 processor-based servers, in a variety of operating system environments including Linux, HP-UX and Windows(r). Emulex PCI-X HBAs are also backwards compatible with existing 1Gb/s and 2Gb/s Fibre Channel PCI installations. The Emulex LP9802 PCI-X HBA is fully compatible with drivers that incorporate Emulex's new centralized HBA management suite, HBAnyware, which features driver-based technology to enable complete management of Emulex HBAs and the ability to upgrade firmware anywhere in a SAN from a single console.

"HP AlphaServer systems combine superior flexibility and scalability, enabling our customers to deploy industry-leading solutions for a wide variety of enterprise applications," said Steve Jenkins, vice president and general manager, HP AlphaServer Division. "The Emulex PCI-X HBAs enable HP to continue delivering the performance, management and reliability that our customers demand."
