Emulex Demonstrates its LP10000 PCI-X HBAs with Driver Support for Next-Generation HP-UX 11i v2 Operating System on HP Integrity Servers at HP World

Emulex's Driver Supports Release of HP-UX 11i v2 Bringing Expanded Options to SANs

COSTA MESA, Calif., Aug. 13, 2003 (PRIMEZONE) -- Emulex Corporation (NYSE:ELX), the world's leading supplier of storage networking host bus adapters (HBAs), today announced that it will feature a storage networking demonstration at HP World utilizing the newly released LightPulse 2Gb/s Fibre Channel LP10000 PCI-X HBAs and its driver designed for HP's HP-UX 11i v2 operating system, the newest version of the HP-UX 11i for the Intel(r) Itanium(r) architecture, running on HP Integrity servers. Emulex is exhibiting in booth 655 in the main hall at HP World 2003, Aug. 11-15, 2003 at the Georgia World Congress Arena in Atlanta.

The Emulex storage networking exhibit will showcase the new HP Integrity server products as well as HP StorageWorks solutions utilizing the Emulex LP10000 and LP9802 HBAs to demonstrate support of HP-UX 11i v2 operating system across multiple HBA generations.

"The newest HP-UX 11i v2 OS combines flexibility with the control to manage and support an adaptive and easy-to-adopt enterprise tool for which Emulex will continue to develop supporting connectivity solutions," said Mike Smith, executive vice president of Worldwide Marketing for Emulex. "Emulex has been working closely with HP to ensure its newest driver fully supports HP-UX 11i v2 upon general release in the fall. Emulex will continue to expand our efforts with HP to ensure support for its broad range of storage networking solutions."

"HP is delighted to see Emulex's continuing efforts for driver development with HP-UX 11i v2, the newest version of HP-UX 11i for the Itanium architecture," said Brian Cox, product line manager, HP Business Critical Systems. "Emulex's demonstration at this year's HP World solidifies their commitment to the HP Hardware Provider program."

Based on the Emulex Thor controller, its LP10000 family of single- and dual-channel PCI-X HBAs provide the robust Fibre Channel SAN connectivity designed to meet the needs of enterprise-class and mid-range customers. Utilizing Emulex's internally designed Thor controller, the Emulex LP10000 product family features an advanced memory architecture, which provides high-speed hardware context switching and data buffering. In addition, the Emulex Thor ASIC features integrated microprocessor, serializer/deserializer (SERDES) and protocol technologies, further reducing the HBA's complexity and footprint.

The Emulex LP10000 family of PCI-X HBAs and previous generation Emulex HBAs, including the award-winning LP9802, may also leverage its recently introduced centralized HBA management suite, HBAnyware(tm). Emulex's HBAnyware reduces total cost of ownership and planned downtime by enabling sophisticated management capabilities such as remote firmware upgrades from a single console anywhere in a SAN. Furthermore, Emulex's Thor-based solutions, combined with HBAnyware, provide a critically needed mechanism for managing and maintaining SAN connectivity in "headless" blade server architectures.
