Session Initiation Protocol Interoperability Testing Event, SIPit 13, Attracts Record Number of Participating Companies

Huge international presence signals increase in global SIP deployments

STOCKHOLM, Sweden , August 13, 2003 (PRIMEZONE) -- SIP Forum (www.sipforum.org), the leading forum for the promotion and inter-working of Session Initiation Protocol (SIP), announced that the 13th SIPit, hosted by Mitel Networks, will take place in Ottawa, Canada from August 18th to 22nd. The SIPit events are the testing base for hardware and applications developed using the communication protocol SIP. SIP is widely accepted as the industry standard not just for Internet telephony, but also for Internet conferencing, presence services, event notification and instant messaging among others.

"SIPit is an international interoperability testing event. At SIPit 13, the participants will be exercising tests that simulate deployments of real services. The scenarios span IP communications, Presence, and Instant Messaging and focus on high levels of reliability and security," said Robert Sparks, Principal Engineer at dynamicsoft, and Coordinator of SIPit Events. "The engineers are here to identify the scenarios where implementations of SIP fail to work together, fix what they can on the fly and re-test immediately. Mitel Networks is providing a first-class test bed, including traditional Ethernet LANs and WiFi, and support for testing over both IPv4 and IPv6."

"Events like SIPit provide a critical industry benchmark in measuring the evolution of this emerging standard and the reality of multi-vendor implementations," said, Jim Davies, Chief Technology Officer, Mitel Networks. "The record-breaking number of attendees for this event underscores the market potential and industry support for SIP as the defacto IP communications standard."

"SIPit 13 has attracted a record number of companies and over 70 product teams that each bring several SIP products to test," said Jorgen Bjorkner, Chairman, SIP Forum. "We are pleased to see the increase in the number of teams and companies attending SIPit, and we will continue to support this interoperability testing event twice a year as inter-working of SIP implementations is an important aspect of supporting an industry standard."
