Teleca supplies control system for new Energy from Waste boiler plant

MALMO, Sweden, Aug. 28, 2003 (PRIMEZONE) -- Benima, part of the Teleca Group, has been commissioned by Aker Kvaerner to supply the control system, including its programming, for the Energy from Waste boiler plant being supplied to power utility Boras Energi.

Modern recycling thinking and new regulations prohibiting the dumping of combustible refuse have led Boras Energi to invest in two new energy from waste boilers that will be integrated with an existing district heating power plant. The two new 20 MW boilers will be fuelled by source- sorted combustible household and industrial waste, recovered wood chips and biofuels, and used both to supply district heating and to produce electricity.

Aker Kvaerner's subsidiary Kvaerner Power in Gothenburg has commissioned Benima to supply the control system and its programming. The system will control and regulate the boilers, including the auxiliary systems that are required to sustain the plant's combustion process. Advanced so- called PLC systems will be used, and Benima will also supply a safety system designed to cope with any unexpected events.

Supervision and control will be accomplished by connecting the system to Boras Energi's existing operating system.

"We're very pleased that Aker Kvaerner asked us to take on this part of the project," said Thomas Fogelstrom, responsible for Benima's fuel and power systems division. "Preparations are currently being made for several similar projects in various parts of the country. We're in a strong position in this area and therefore have high hopes for more projects in the future."
