Answers to Life's Conundrums -- Author's new spiritual self-help book offers a metaphorical 'return to Eden'

OLYMPIA, Wash., Sept. 4, 2003 (PRIMEZONE) -- "An unexamined life is not worth living." Author Ellison Straley sees the wisdom in this quote by Socrates and offers readers a chance to spiritually revamp with his newly released book, Letters to Friends and Seekers (now available through 1stBooks), a compelling follow-up edition to his provocative book, Climbing Jacob's Ladder (also available through 1stBooks).

Letters to Friends and Seekers is a collection of 169 essays posing questions and answers to life's most difficult mysteries. Straley believes most individuals have an insatiable desire to bond with their creator and reprioritize their lives. With his book, he shows readers how they can leave their paths of misdirection and guide their souls "home." Straley offers, in essence, a metaphoric "return to Eden."

Salvation, Straley writes, lies not in a cleverly conceived system of man, but in the hands of the "Other," or the "Unknown." This being, known as God, is the only one that can save humanity and return people to their "normal state." During this process, people will change gradually, without a dramatic alteration of physical life characteristics, the author explains.

"It will all take place in the serene stillness known to mystics as the void. But we will be fully aware of what has taken place. We will feel adjusted to a state of unity, re-centered as one instead of many. We will have come home," he writes.

Straley decided to write about his spiritual experiences to share the enlightenment he gained through lifelong self-examination. With Letters to Friends and Seekers, he opens the door to spiritual truths and encourages seekers to probe at life's puzzles for answers below the lies.

He currently resides in Olympia, Wash. Now retired, Straley enjoys visiting his children, six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Though he credits his unique theories to truth alone, he admits he did have help along his journey. His "number one helper through life," his wife of 56 years, recently died. Her death and his subsequent emotional and life readjustments drove him to attempt communication "through the veil ... crossing over to what lies beyond."
