The Societe de Chimie Industrielle

The American Section of the Societe was founded in 1918 through the efforts of an American chemist, Jerome Alexander, and the Section's first president, Leo H. Baekeland. Similar to the French organization, the original mission of the Societe was to aid and encourage the utilization of scientific and engineering developments by the industry and promotion of chemistry in public opinion, especially among the young and those within the education system. Today, the American Section is involved in a number of non-profit activities, including speaker programs, granting fellowships and scholarships to students pursuing the study of chemistry, and honoring individuals who have significantly contributed to the industry.
