Lattanze Center Names Northrop Grumman's Thomas Shelman Information Systems Executive of the Year


BALTIMORE and HERNDON, Va., Sept. 8, 2003 (PRIMEZONE) -- The David D. Lattanze Center for Executive Studies in Information Systems at Loyola College in Maryland has named Thomas Shelman, vice president and chief information officer, Northrop Grumman Corporation (NYSE:NOC), as its 2003 Information Systems (IS) Executive of the Year.

Established in 1991, the IS Executive of the Year Award is a national award that recognizes leaders who have made outstanding contributions in advancing the strategic application of information technology to achieve their organizations' objectives.

As the company's chief information officer, Shelman is responsible for managing information technology as a shared service for all business elements within Northrop Grumman. He ensures that appropriate state-of-the-art computer and application technology is available and used at a satisfactory level of security. Shelman also serves as vice president of Northrop Grumman's Information Technology (IT) sector Internal Information Services (IIS) business unit, based in Dallas, Texas.

He will accept the award on Wednesday, Sept. 17, as part of a day's events that include a CIO roundtable and a student-focused session about the power of mentoring.

The Lattanze Center at Loyola College was formed in 1987 to provide a forum for discussions among chief information officers of multinational and government organizations. Its mission is to offer relevant executive education on planning, building and managing IT systems for enterprise success; provide forums for discussion on the fusion of IT strategies with enterprise strategies; and to facilitate information sharing among the community of IT executives. The Center, which has been cited by CIO Magazine as one of the top information technology centers in the country, proactively supports interchanges among business, government and academic sectors on the strategic uses of information technology and emerging trends in the telecommunications industry.

The Lattanze Information Technology Executive of the Year Award, given annually since 1991, has honored executives such as William D. Friel of The Prudential Insurance Company of America and Robert R. Ridout of the DuPont Company.
