Emulex Announces EMC E-Lab Qualification of its New LP10000 and LP10000DC Fibre Channel HBAs

COSTA MESA, Calif., Sept. 9, 2003 (PRIMEZONE) -- Emulex Corporation (NYSE:ELX), the world's leading supplier of storage networking host bus adapters (HBAs), announced today that EMC Corp. (NYSE:EMC) is the first OEM partner to qualify the newest members of Emulex's LightPulse family of HBAs, the LP10000 and dual channel LP10000DC, as E-Lab Tested(tm). EMC's qualification with Symmetrix(r) and CLARiiON(r) networked storage systems running Linux, Windows and Solaris marks the general availability of the LP10000 HBA product family into the marketplace. Emulex's recently released Open Source Linux driver is also qualified by EMC with the Emulex LP9802, LP9802DC, LP9002 and LP9002DC, for use with Symmetrix and CLARiiON networked storage systems.

"The rigorous E-Lab Tested program is a testament to EMC's commitment to offering customers the highest level of interoperability assurance with its automated networked storage solutions," said Chuck Hollis, Vice President of Markets and Products at EMC. "Working with industry-leading partners like Emulex enables qualification of the most robust infrastructure products and allows EMC to continue adding value while reducing total cost of ownership."

"As the demand for enterprise-level storage networking solutions has grown, EMC continues to offer one of the world's most comprehensive set of storage products and services," said Mike Smith, executive vice president of worldwide marketing of Emulex. "We are especially pleased that EMC has qualified Emulex's new LP10000 HBAs -- which deliver performance improvements of 30-50 percent over prior generations. The EMC E-Lab qualification assures users that Emulex HBAs are robust and flexible enough to meet their organization's needs."

The Emulex LP10000 and LP9802 PCI-X HBAs are fully backwards compatible with previous generations of the company's market leading HBAs, enabling customers to effortlessly migrate to higher performance solutions while also allowing for simplified integration into existing storage area networks (SANs).

The Emulex LP10000, LP10000DC, LP9802, LP9802DC, LP9002 and LP9002DC are fully compatible with drivers that incorporate Emulex's new centralized HBA management suite, HBAnyware, which features driver-based technology to enable complete management of Emulex HBAs and the ability to upgrade firmware anywhere in a SAN from a single console. Emulex HBAs feature a unique architecture that enables forward and backward compatibility with both new and existing SAN installations. In addition, Emulex HBAs offer a driver independent, firmware upgradeable architecture that protects customers' investments in storage networking solutions, by enabling the addition of new features without requiring hardware replacement.
