WOODLAND HILLS, Calif., Sept. 18, 2003 (PRIMEZONE) -- Northrop Grumman Corporation's (NYSE:NOC) Electronic Systems sector has appointed Dr. Alexis C. Livanos vice president and general manager of its Navigation Systems Division (NSD).

In this position, Livanos will have executive responsibility for all division business areas and programs. He will serve as a member of the Sector Policy Council and will continue to be located at Woodland Hills. Livanos will also be responsible for Electronic Systems subsidiaries and sites located in Toronto and Halifax, Canada; Freiburg and Heidelberg, Germany; Pomezia, Italy; Canton, Mass., and Salt Lake City, Utah.
NSD supplies situational awareness products for international and domestic defense and commercial markets and offers integrated avionics, navigation and positioning systems for space and high-value platform products, navigation-grade and tactical-grade inertial systems, fiber-optic gyro systems designed to customer requirements, underwater fiber-optic sensors, identification friend-or-foe transponders and interrogators, cockpit displays and computers, and logistic support products and services.
Livanos has extensive executive-level experience in the defense and space industry. He served as deputy general manager for the former TRW Space and Electronics Group and later as executive vice president of operations for Space Systems/Loral. Prior to joining Northrop Grumman, Livanos served as executive vice president of Boeing Satellite Systems, where he was responsible for technology, engineering, manufacturing, supply chain management, and strategic relationships and ventures.
Livanos joined Northrop Grumman's Electronic Systems sector in February of this year as vice president, program operations, overseeing all development programs at NSD in the areas of business strategy, business development and overall program execution. Livanos received a bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering, a master's degree in engineering science, and a Ph.D. in engineering science and physics from the California Institute of Technology, where he subsequently taught applied physics for two years.
The Navigation Systems Division is part of the company's Baltimore, Md.-based Electronic Systems sector, a world leader in the design, development and manufacture of defense and commercial electronics and systems including airborne radar, navigation systems, electronic countermeasures, precision weapons, airspace management systems, communications systems, space systems, marine and naval systems, government systems and logistics services.
