Markland Technologies to Testify at Congressional Hearing on Counter-Terrorism Technology

Markland Technologies invited by Chairman of the Congressional Hearing of the House Government Reform Committee's Subcommittee on National Security and Emerging Threats to speak at the U.S. Congressional Hearings on National Security


RIDGEFIELD, Conn., Sep 23, 2003 (PRIMEZONE) -- Markland Technologies, Inc. (OTCBB:MKLD), an integrated homeland security company, (www.marklandtech.com) announced today it has been invited to testify at the September 29, 2003 Congressional Hearing of the House Government Reform Committee's Subcommittee on National Security and Emerging Threats. The hearing panel, chaired by Rep. Christopher Shays (R-Conn.), will focus on new counter-terrorism technology. The hearing was called through a combined effort of House Government Reform Committee's Subcommittee and the Homeland Security Industry Association (HSIA).

The House and Senate approved $29.4 billion for the first spending bill for the Department of Homeland Security according to the New York Times. The DHS would like to expedite its process so that critical security technologies can be purchased and implemented in a timely manner. This hearing is one initiative of several to assist in facilitating the substantial opportunity for technology companies and meeting the homeland security needs.

Markland's President, Mr. Ken Ducey, will be speaking on behalf of the Company at the hearing. HSIA is working with DHS to streamline the process of introducing new technologies that will help DHS with their mission of protecting our country. Markland is on the Board of HSIA.

The hearing will focus on the activities of the Technical Support Working Group (TSWG) and its working relationship with the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) to identify and promote new technology that would benefit national security. Markland will testify on the experiences they have had working with the DHS and procuring contracts. Markland will also comment on the efforts of the DHS to make certain the appropriate agencies and departments are made aware of the numerous security technologies and services offered by small and medium businesses. Markland currently has ongoing contracts for border security technologies and services with the DHS.
