Joining Women Through Words - New Poetry Book Highlights Ordeals, Emotions of Women

WICHITA, Kan., Sept. 23, 2003 (PRIMEZONE) -- In her new book of poetry, A Woman's Mind (now available through 1stBooks), Carla Horton has compiled poems that detail what women feel, think and experience. Her poems reflect women's identity before, during and after relationships.

A common idea among women is that they are the only ones facing difficult emotions or situations. Women are often surprised to discover that others have gone through similar experiences, Horton writes. She hopes her poems help women feel less alone.

She writes of a wide range of emotions, including loneliness, happiness, confusion and a broken heart. A Woman's Mind reminds women to love and appreciate themselves. She encourages them to understand that a relationship does not define who they are. Although one should expect give and take in a relationship, women should never lose sight of their dreams. Horton even encourages men to read this book to understand what women are thinking, but are not saying.

"True Love...Unconditionally" shows Horton's writing style and message:

"I refuse to believe that true love, unconditionally,/ along with romance and a lifetime of happiness does/ not exist./ I refuse to believe that the same man that professes/ his love for you and thinks that you are the sunshine/ of his life and the beat in his heart, can't still love/ you the same way once you're married./ I have yet to find that man, but just as sure as I/ know that there is a GOD in heaven, a good/ man like that does exist."

Horton has two sons, Jullian and Jeremy. Jullian, who provided illustration for the book, is in college. Jeremy passed away in 2001at age 13 after complications from a childhood vaccine. Horton's writing career began when she had a poem published in Jack and Jill as an elementary school student. She has also been published in the International Library of Poetry. A Woman's Mind is her first book.
