Through Another's Eyes -- New poetry compilation offers look at life through variety of characters' eyes

SEABROOK, Texas, Oct. 1, 2003 (PRIMEZONE) -- Patti D was not attracted to poetry years ago. After she experienced a revelation, however, she looked to poetry as an outlet for her thoughts. She shares her discovered talent in Shades of Blue (now available through 1stBooks), writing from a variety of perspectives to illustrate the feelings people experience and the harrowing situations they sometimes face.

From a soldier serving his country to a child who tells Santa in a letter that he wants to exchange all his Christmas gifts just to send one kiss to his father, stationed in the Middle East, these characters evoke a touching response and show the author's extraordinary talent at capturing true-to-life sentiments. Patti D offers a unique perspective in poetic form in works, such as "All Net," in which a 17-year-old falls in love at first sight. "Forgive and Forget" features a man who must choose between living with a painful past and immersing himself in a traumatic memory to forgive. Another touching poem describes the terrorist attacks of Sept. 11, 2001, through the eyes of a distraught woman.

"Why Why Why" shows a glimpse of Patti D's style:

"Four hours of sleep/Foreign food I now eat/Combat exercises we continually repeat/In case the drums of war should beat./So that you and your children/Can safely walk the streets./Please don't let your/Differences of opinion,/Conquer or divide/The gleam of pride in my child's eye./How can you walk/Walk with your head held high?/When a half a world away/I can hear my child cry."

Another intriguing aspect of the author's book is the front cover. The cover sports a picture, with several spots of light, taken during a family outing. At first glance, one assumes these are merely specks on the lens. However, there are far too many of different shapes and sizes. What are they? This was the question Patti D asked herself. She writes about these "orbs" in her compelling poetic work, "They."

Shades of Blue is Patti D's first book. After her mother died, she came to a new perception of life and death and was subsequently relieved of pain and anger. This metamorphosis led to her poetic achievements and, eventually, this book.
