A Love Story That Illustrates the Power of Being `Color Blind'; Book tells suspenseful story of President's white daughter and love for an older black man from Panama

LOS ANGELES, Oct. 2, 2003 (PRIMEZONE) -- In a story of bigotry on an international scale, love ultimately wins this challenge. In his new book, Color Blind (now available through 1stBooks), Douglas Lowell Pemberton creates a love story that spans from the Central American country of Panama to the highest ranks of America in the White House. When the first daughter falls in love with a man from Panama, the President and first lady will do anything to stop them.

Whitecella, the first daughter, is 17, smart and on her way to a Harvard University education studying law. While the family is in Panama negotiating the ownership of the Panama Canal, Whitecella's curiosity takes her to a tribal religious ceremony. Almost attacked, she is saved by a 31-year-old Panama tour guide, Stupido Frito. The pair falls madly in love.

This, of course, does not meet the approval of the President, Monte Fortune, and his wife. After learning of Whitecella' pregnancy and grand plans for a wedding ceremony, they launch a covert plan against Stupido and hire an assassin to track him down. Will the higher powers in Washington thwart the future happiness of Whitecella and Stupido? Or will love ultimately prevail?

A story of love and suspense, its greater theme is the continued importance of the fight against racial bigotry and prejudice. The author writes that by stressing the importance of wiping out this hateful idea, many lives could be saved and many people could live happier.

Pemberton was a Los Angeles postal employee until his retirement in 1994. He now works as a teacher in the Los Angeles Unified School district. In addition to spending time with his 17-year-old daughter, Arista Porche, he enjoys singing, watching movies, writing and playing sports. Other published works by Pemberton include Price of Forbidden Love, Slick and It's a Shame.
