The War, Through the Eye of the Storm - New book tells one man's story as a youngster growing up in Berlin during World War II

MURRELLS INLET, S.C., Oct. 2, 2003 (PRIMEZONE) -- In 1943 Berlin, author Rolf Reinke was just a boy as he huddled in a four-story apartment with his mother. His father had been summoned to fight in the German army, leaving Rolf and his mother breathing through wet towels to decrease the effects of the destructive dust. Reinke outlines many powerful true stories from his life in Can You Tell Me Where We Are (now available through 1stBooks).

Born to a middle class family in the heart of Berlin, Reinke saw his life change forever when Germany invaded Poland in 1939. His father was drafted, and he was soon also called into service. In 1943, he joined countless other young Germans, sent to schools in Poland to take classes such as flying, skiing and riding. They were being groomed to be the next wave of Nazi soldiers.

A candid look at a harrowing time in world history, Reinke's story offers a unique perspective of World War II though the eyes of a German, trapped in his own land. Reinke also details the Russian invasion of Berlin, life in East Berlin and how he managed to move to West Berlin before the construction of the Berlin Wall.

From the first Allied bombs to his flight from Germany to America in 1958, Reinke's story offers a rare and informative look into one of the most influential wars in world history.

Reinke worked as a building contractor until his retirement in 1994. He currently lives in South Carolina with his wife. Can You Tell Me Where We Are is his first book.
