Skanska secures Czech Republic's largest bank order valued at SEK 772 M

STOCKHOLM, Sweden, Oct. 8, 2003 (PRIMEZONE) -- Skanska (Pink Sheets:SKSBF) (LSE:SKAbq) has secured one of the largest design and build projects in the Czech Republic. Valued at SEK 772 M (CZK 2,740 M), the contract is for the new head office of the Czech bank CSOB in Prague. The order is included in order bookings for the third quarter.

Skanska CZ landed the contract after presenting a winning total solution that covers everything from locating a suitable site to constructing the building. Skanska is also responsible for the architectural and technical design of the 40,000-square-meter bank office. The office's flexible solution will provide workplaces for about 2,400 persons.

The environmental aspects were of decisive significance. Skanska's proposal features long-term sustainable, energy efficient solutions and a modern design with a series of atrium buildings that harmonize with the surroundings. Part of the green aspect includes a large part of the roof area being covered with grass.

"We are highly satisfied with the winning proposal. Since the very beginning of the tendering procedure, we have preferred an open accessible and attractive project design. Therefore, we chose Skanska," said Pavel Kavanek, President and Chairman of Ceskoslovenska obchodni banka (CSOB).

The design work has been started and construction work will begin at the end of 2004. The project is scheduled to be completed in 2006.

Skanska CZ is currently also constructing the Sazka Arena in Prague. The SEK 815 M contract is the largest ongoing construction project in the Czech Republic. The arena, with seating for 18,000, will be completed for the Ice-hockey World Championship 2004.
