Teleca expands Obigo by bringing Scalable Vector Graphics to mobile phones

MALMO, Sweden, Oct. 14, 2003 (PRIMEZONE) -- Teleca and ZOOMON Mobile Solutions today signed a global licensing and distribution agreement. ZOOMON's Scalable Vector Graphics (SVG) Player from ZOOMON will be integrated with Obigo, Teleca's industry-leading application software suite for mobile phone manufacturers.

By integrating the ZOOMON SVG Player with Obigo, Teleca will be able to quickly provide handset manufacturers with mobile SVG technology. Examples of services that make use of SVG are comics, cartoons, infotainment, as well as maps and financial services. The solution offers rich 2-D graphics media opportunities for mobile phones and is fully based on open standards developed by the Open Mobile Alliance (OMA). By pre-integrating the SVG Player with Obigo, it will be possible to improve the user experience and provide SVG animations in both multimedia messages (MMS) and the browser itself.

"Including the ZOOMON SVG Player in Obigo will help Obigo licensees to effectively implement an optimized Mobile SVG software solution for their products. We are looking forward to working closely with Teleca and its licensees to help create innovative solutions and to create even greater demand for mobile phones based on Obigo," said Stefan Elmstedt, CEO of ZOOMON.

"Our relation with ZOOMON will make our product portfolio even more comprehensive," said Joakim Nydemark, Managing Director of Teleca Mobile Technologies AB. "Obigo licensees will benefit from a short time to market to provide graphic media support, and consumers will be rewarded with an improved user interface experience."

Obigo with SVG functionality will be demonstrated at the ITU Telecom World 2003 Forum in Geneva 12-18 October. Welcome to Teleca in the Swedish pavilion in hall 2.
