On the Road, Reggae Style -- New book tells stories of one-month European tour with reggae group

LONDON, Oct. 14, 2003 (PRIMEZONE) -- If one goes on the road with a reggae band to a seven-show tour in Europe, there's bound to be some stories to tell. That's exactly what happened to George Parker, who gives readers insight into the behind-the-scenes activities of a group of talented musicians on the road in his new book, Ten Minutes to Showtime (now available through 1stbooks).

A Jamaican artist, Parker is invited to tour with a British-based, multiracial band of reggae musicians for one month. In close quarters and following tight schedules, Parker encounters humorous and eye-opening antics of about 30 rambunctious musicians. From sexual romps to the constant presence of marijuana, these reggae musicians know how to pass the time off stage.

Along the way, readers see relationships form and crumble and the making and breaking of deals. Through France, Germany and Belgium, these musicians work together to make excellent sounds and quench European fans' thirst for reggae, all while falling in love, forming friendships and having fun on the road.

A compelling and fast-paced work, the book leaves readers breathless and wondering what could possibly happen "ten minutes to showtime."

Parker is a writer, lecturer, and amateur musician. Born in Jamaica, he moved to England and later attended school in London to earn his master's degree. He spent his summer breaks organizing and touring with reggae bands, the inspiration for this book. He now lives in Jamaica and writes for a living.
