Training by Ear in the Minefields -- Author tells of combat experience and offers advice to soldiers

OCALA, Fla., Oct. 14, 2003 (PRIMEZONE) -- When troops were sent to Iraq to oust Dictator Saddam Hussein, veteran A. Lewis realized his 15 years of military service was time well spent. In the time it took for the formal assault on that country to conclude, Lewis completed his new book, The True Commander in Chief - Training by Ear in the Minefields (now available through 1stBooks).

"This is not a document for the weak, nor strength to the foolhardy, but a manuscript of true adversity, a document of determination, pages that were written to encourage persistence," he writes.

From the blinding deserts to the rigors of training, Lewis offers an inside look at the perils of combat and to the preparations of war. He tells of the life-saving connection to God and offers advice to other soldiers on how to "listen" on the battlefields not only to life-saving commands, but also commands from the "True Commander in Chief," God.

Lewis describes in detail his experiences with praying, fasting and listening to God's commands, as well as the connection between his faith and events that occurred on the battlefield. The True Commander in Chief was written, "to summarize key aspects of survival because there are times that the only answer for continued survival is outside of standard training."

Built on the idea that it is possible to have an individual experience with God, the book emphasizes aspects of being a serviceman, including military training. He discusses the feelings, emotions and activities he endured while on duty in the Persian Gulf and an equally successful second deployment.

Lewis spent 15 years in the Army, where he obtained the rank of SFC (E-7). He spent seven years in Europe and eight years of service in the United States. Currently, he works on computer networks in Florida.
