Cancer Signals - New Book Embarks on Spiritual Journey to Combat Cancer

ROCHESTER, N.Y., Oct. 14, 2003 (PRIMEZONE) -- Each year, cancer claims millions of people worldwide. It is a mysterious disease that strikes without prejudice or favoritism. Millions of cancer cells multiply within one's body, wreaking havoc that very few medical treatments can alter. However, there may be an alternative to combating disease. The new book, Cancer Signals: Take Charge and Win! (now available through 1stBooks), by Barbara Wolf and Margaret Fikioris suggest a new way to combat cancer that worked for one of them.

Fikioris battled cancer signals in October 2001. After other treatments had failed, she and her friend, Wolf, began a spiritual journey over email to put a stop to the disease. The book, presented in email format, details the women's journey to good health.

Inspired by Fikioris's son-in-law, the authors decide to take a Native American approach. They suppose all things are living, even the cancer cells. With this in mind, they began to envision what they would need to heal Fikioris.

"Our spiritual journey can begin with an examination of this thought: if love goes hand in hand with good health, maybe love can entice your bladder cells to return to normal. You know they've been crying at you, 'draining at you,' trying to catch your attention. What if you give them love? Would this do the trick?" Wolf writes in the beginning to Fikioris.

From here, the women embark on a long, arduous road to wellness, both spiritually and physically. Cancer Signals is a unique book about love, health and the spirit.

Wolf has written textbooks with her husband, including Ghosts, Castles and Victims. Her early interest in television foreign correspondence in Africa and the Middle East lead to a career in writing and presenting papers at international peace conferences. She is also the head of the Global Mediations Network, a vast Internet peace organization.

Fikioris is a museum consultant specializing in historic fabrics. She was also a technical adviser for the conservation of the Star-Spangled Banner. Cancer Signals is her first book.
