Forget 'Cops and Robbers,' Try This Game: Fast-paced novel features battle between dirty politicians and a Christian family backed by angels

ANNANDALE, Va., Oct. 17, 2003 (PRIMEZONE) -- As the first presidential election since the Sept. 11, 2001 attacks, the coming year may see many candidates with renewed interests in carrying terrorism and military force -- both for and against -- policies on their platform. Along with the emergence of candidates, there usually comes a deluge of media coverage and public scrutiny of the presidential hopefuls. In Marjorie J. Newton's newly released novel, Where Have All the Angels Gone (now available through 1stBooks), the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) enlists the help of an unusual spy force not to expose the political contenders themselves, but the conspiracy behind their selection.

How are candidates for the highest office in the nation chosen? This is the question the CIA wants answered. For many years, they've watched thousands of potential candidates dwindle to a select few that appear on the voters' ballots and are now convinced the system is corrupt. The agency develops a special military task force to uproot the crimes. Their plan requires a competent group of spies, however, they do not choose from a pool of high-ranking generals, politicians, judges or Wall Street tycoons. Instead, they pick a family of Latter-day Saints.

Surprised, but willing to serve their country, the family is drawn into the scheme and is blindsided by the evil they face: espionage, corporate takeovers and danger around every turn. They are kidnapped, mysteriously brainwashed and some are even killed; yet they continue to praise and appeal to God. What they don't expect is the help they receive as a result. The family's pleas for help are answered, but in a startling way.

"Not all angels are in heaven. Some walk among us," the author remarks.

Her novel strikes a bittersweet chord of Christian faith. She reminds readers that serving God---just like serving their country---takes sacrifice, but those who do will not be forsaken. A story of triumph over evil, Where Have All the Angels Gone proves that nice guys don't always finish last.

"If you think the bad guys can be bad, wait until you see how good the good guys can be," Newton writes.

Newton grew up in Washington D.C., married young and raised five children. She spent 21 years working at the American Postal Workers Union and has published a collection of poetry, From the Heart (also available through 1stBooks). She has also published several works of poetry and plans to publish her third book soon.
