Riveting Book Offers Murder, Mystery and Suspense -- New mystery novel tells of corrupt forces at work in man's hometown

NEW YORK, Oct. 17, 2003 (PRIMEZONE) -- Michael Allessandro discovers his hometown is not the city it once was. A former high-powered advertising executive in Los Angeles, he returns after 10 years to the economically depressed northeastern town to attend his estranged brother's funeral. He is told James's death is a suicide; however, he questions the strange information he receives. In author Anthony Maccarrone's new mystery, Abigail's Lake (now available through 1stBooks) Michael works to uncover who James really was, how he died and why, questions that stir up the town's most privileged residents.

When a mysterious tape-recording surfaces, Michael begins investigating. What he finds threatens to unravel the fabric of this small town; it implicates greedy and corrupt Hadleyville officials. Michael also discovers bizarre information about the local private school where his brother once taught; a youth organization James founded, the Students for a Moral America, has become a neo-fascist conservative group that uses brutality to impose its beliefs.

In a suspenseful, intricate twist, Michael finds himself back at his old favorite hangout, Thompson's Bar and Grill. The owner, Fred Thompson, and his young nephew, Joey Atkins, become a part of his brother's story when Joey displays pictures, taken days before James's death. These pictures portray what really happened and may bring down Hadleyville's most influential citizens.

A superbly crafted story, Maccarrone's plot and characters keep readers clamoring for the next scene. What will Michael's investigation uncover? What is the story behind the Students for a Moral America? Follow this protagonist as he scrambles to seek justice for his brother's death and inner peace for himself.
