EMS Technologies Announces a Milestone in its Partnership with Insite Consulting Inc.

SAN ANTONIO, Texas, Oct. 20, 2003 (PRIMEZONE) -- EMS Technologies, Inc. (Nasdaq:ELMG)today announced a milestone in its partnership with Insite Consulting Inc., to supply PDT-100 packet data satellite terminals and the Insite Enterprise Transportation Control System (ETCS) to the U.S. Air Force Space Command (AFSPC).

The multi-year, multi-phase contract has already seen the installation and initial operational capability (IOC) of more than 350 units in the Command, and will eventually supply more than 800 units to major Space Command installations across the United States. EMS has already completed system installations on emergency response vehicles at the first five major Air Force bases, including, Patrick AFB, Florida; Vandenberg AFB, California; and Francis E. Warren (FEW) AFB in Cheyenne, Wyoming. These installations include certification to use the ETCS during a major disaster response exercise at FEW.

The PDT-100 is currently deployed with trucking companies, law enforcement and emergency management agencies to support high-speed data communications and GPS-based asset tracking of various types. Under this Air Force program, the PDT terminals are being installed on ground support vehicles that operate across the continental USA, and provide real-time vehicle tracking and two-way messaging both on base and at all remote locations. The PDT-100 terminals use satellite data communications over the MSV MSAT-1 satellite network, providing mobile ground support vehicles constant communications capability anywhere in North America. This solution is ideally suited for tracking and managing AFSPC's mobile assets, as many of these assets travel in remote areas that have no other communications infrastructure.

This contract represents the first military application for the PDT-100 terminal. James McMillan, director, Land Mobile Group, EMS Technologies, remarked, "EMS is pleased to work with Insite Consulting in providing the U.S. military with a state-of-the-art satellite communications solution. Developing a solution for the U.S. military requires equipment of the highest quality. The EMS PDT-100 terminal is hardware of the caliber that the U.S. military has come to expect."

ETCS provides both the traditional transportation dispatch centers and Air Force mission command centers with a real-time graphical display of where their vehicle and personnel assets are, and also provides full dispatching support, including the ability to change and relay dispatch orders to moving vehicles on a near-real-time basis. The position and messaging data is encrypted to prevent unauthorized access.

With the ETCS, an authorized user with access to the Internet and a security key issued by the system administrator can monitor assets. This was of particular importance to the Air Force client since senior officers on each base perform overnight 'road master' duties on a rotating basis. The ETCS allows these executives to fulfill this role from any office they may be in on that particular day or even from their homes at night.

"The U.S. military has realized additional benefits ranging from equipment maintenance, to safety, security and reduced accident rates through better management of the deployed vehicles," said McMillan.
