The Legends of God's Country - New Book of Short Stories Collects Legacies of Idaho Panhandle

HARBOR SPRINGS, Mich., Oct. 21, 2003 (PRIMEZONE) -- Deep in the Selkirk Mountains, where the sky reflects in the waters of Priest Lake, a sense of something more ancient than history permeates the fresh, crisp air. From this hallowed region, comes a collection of stories. Kaniksu Two: Masselow, Fabled Waters, She Who Sees and Other Stories (now available through 1stBooks), by Thomas F. Lacy, celebrates the spirit of the Idaho panhandle.

Kaniksu Two is a collection of short stories and one long myth set in northern Idaho. The stories range from humorous to inspirational to historical. "Fabled Waters" is a story of the hilarious mishaps of two friends' disastrous summer of fishing. "Masselow" is about America's six-decade-long campaign to "remove" Masselow and the rugged remnants of his people from their ancestral lands to a distant plot on a reservation. The chief and the gentle Kalispel Indians politely decline the offer. "She Who Sees," shaman and beautiful Native American maiden, holds a deep fear that ends in murder, a kidnapping and in war.

Adorned with rare photos, including seven rare Leonard Paul postcards from the 1920s, Kaniksu Two is a celebration of strength, courage and legacy.

Lacy grew up in Spokane, Wash., and spent summers in the Kaniksu National Forest. He swam in the icy waters of Priest Lake, hiked the Selkirk Mountains, fly fished and scoured the sandy shores for Native American artifacts. He attended the University of Idaho and, later, Harvard Graduate School of Business Administration. He served in World War II and later ran his own advertising agency. Kaniksu Two is the sequel to his first book of short stories, Kaniksu.
