PETERSBURG, Va., Oct. 21, 2003 (PRIMEZONE) -- Manchester Tank and Equipment, a subsidiary of Birmingham, Alabama-based McWane, Inc., announced today that its Petersburg, Virginia plant has been honored by the South Central Wastewater Authority for its efforts in environmental excellence. The plant received honors in the region in the first such annual awards.
On behalf of the facility, plant manager Rick Semeraro accepted a Certificate of Compliance and a plaque for having implemented the most pollution prevention practices in the area for the years 2002 and 2003.
"Manchester Tank and Equipment's Petersburg plant is a regional leader in environmental excellence and has demonstrated a strong commitment to reducing emissions and waste," said Ed Waskey, Laboratory Manager and Pre-Treatment Coordinator for the South Central Wastewater Authority, who presented the award.
The awards program recognizes achievements in the areas of environmental compliance and waste minimization. Manchester Tank and Equipment's Petersburg plant not only met, but exceeded compliance standards for state environmental permits. In addition, the plant has taken the initiative to minimize three waste streams: additional amounts of scrap metal are being sold for recycling; powder coatings are used rather than liquid coatings, thus reducing the emission of volatile organic compounds (VOCs); and the plant recycles all of its cardboard and wood waste.
"Recognition like this is a great honor," said Rick Semeraro, Petersburg plant manager. "It speaks to the success of our efforts and underscores our continuing determination to harmonize our manufacturing processes with the environment."
