In Search of Hemingway and Joyce - New Collection of Short Stories Covers the Range of Human Emotions

DIAMOND BAR, Calif., Oct. 27, 2003 (PRIMEZONE) -- Life can be a varied mess of tears and laughter, and it demands an array of stories to cover its individual, intricate facets. Author Sam Bluefarb offers a collection of stories directly related to these emotions with his new book, In Search of Hemingway, Joyce, and...: And Other Stories (now available through 1stBooks).

Bluefarb submits a collection of 10 stories about "the school of life." His stories focus on the gamut of emotions one feels in life, from sadness to joy. Written in a unique style, In Search of Hemingway, Joyce, and...is an excursion into tragedy and perpetuates the human comedy. His characters find romance and heartache, suffer the pain of memories and search for the supernatural.

In the title story, "In Search of Hemingway, Joyce, and...," a search for the ghosts of writers Ernest Hemingway and James Joyce leads to an unexpected encounter. "He Remembered" and "To Byzantium...And Back" are stories of sadness and compassion. Other stories, like "Great Soul Rosenberg," "Cruel and Usual Punishment" and "Published...At Last!" evoke laughter at the accounts of the great human comedy.

Avoiding the grotesque or "shock value," Bluefarb offers a collection of short stories about everyday people with In Search of Hemingway, Joyce, and...

Bluefarb is a retired professor of English. He has a bachelor's degree form UCLA, a master's from the University of Southern California and his doctorate from the University of New Mexico. He has published several other books, including Reunion (A Novel), Set in L.A.: Scenes of the City in Fiction, The Escape Motif in the American Novel and The Dubious Benefits of Nostalgia and Other Stories. He served in the Army during World War II and makes his home in Southern California.
