BALTIMORE, Oct. 28, 2003 (PRIMEZONE) -- Northrop Grumman Corporation (NYSE:NOC) was one of three companies to receive the United States Postal Service's Partnership for Progress Award, the most prestigious award the USPS can present to suppliers.

Postmaster General John E. "Jack" Potter presented the award to the employees of Northrop Grumman's Automation and Information Systems business unit during ceremonies at the 2003 Fall National Postal Forum in Kansas City, Mo. Vicki Spira, vice president of the business unit, accepted the award.
The award, also presented to Siemens Dematic Postal Automation and Lockheed Martin Distribution Technologies, recognizes the collaborative and cooperative efforts these corporations have with the Postal Service for investing in advanced technology research, and for presenting a partnered approach to strengthening postal automation standardization.
"These three corporations, though competitive, have recognized the value of being open to new ways of doing business," said Potter. "They have found that they can work collectively and independently with the Postal Service in the interest of improving the mailing industry and value to their own shareholders."
This commitment to teamwork helped significantly reduce operating costs and improve service, especially in the areas of recognition technology and mail processing equipment.
"The cooperative spirit of these three corporations to aim and achieve a mutually beneficial partnership with the Postal Service and each other only serves to better the entire mailing industry and our customers, the American public," said Potter.

The Automation and Information Systems business unit is part of the Government Systems Division of Northrop Grumman's Electronic Systems sector. Headquartered in Baltimore, the sector is a world leader in the integration, design, development and manufacture of defense electronics and systems including airborne radar, navigation systems, electronic countermeasures, precision weapons, airspace management systems, communications systems, space systems, marine and naval systems, government systems and logistics services.
