When Death Walks Amongst Us - New Book Examines the Emotions Surrounding Death

NEW HAVEN, Conn., Nov. 3, 2003 (PRIMEZONE) -- Death visits everyone in time. The inevitable visit is often regarded with fear and leaves pain and sorrow in its wake. However, as time moves on, the pain lessens. Jeffrey L. Scudder hopes to help with the healing process with his new book, When Death Walks Amongst Us (now available through 1stBooks), a collection of stories about confronting most people's greatest fear: death.

Scudder provides mostly true accounts of death in a chilling, thought-provoking collection. When Death Walks Amongst Us stares at the face of death in the hopes it will lessen the mental anguish the bereaved suffer. His stories are written to achieve a specific end, to help readers let their emotions go and confront inner fears.

"Hopefully, by having open discussions about grief, pains and sorrow, we can deal with it better, and perhaps, learn to heal mentally quicker someday," Scudder says.

Changing only names and minor details for flow and continuity, Scudder recounts incidents of near death at the hands of neighborhood bullies in "The Last Delivery." A family learns to deal with the loss of their matriarch in the emotional "The Broken Man." "A Grievous Reckoning" examines the peculiar time allotted for each person on Earth as Aisha and her husband, Richard, fight to stay together as death pries them apart.

Also included is "The Forlorn One," the only fictional account in the book. Scudder says it is inspired by numerous events. The story is a culmination of pain and sorrow pointed towards grief and healing. The opening dream sequence of the title story, "When Death Walks Amongst Us," is a fictional account provided by David W. Scudder Sr, but written by Jeffrey L. Scudder.

When Death Walks Amongst Us is an emotional and chilling foray into the mysteries of death and the pain of grief along the path to healing.

Scudder has won awards for fire prevention and safety, a full scholarship to Milton Academy and a partial scholarship to the University of New Haven. Through all his endeavors, he has never abandoned his love of writing. When Death Walks Amongst Us is his first book.
