An Unknown Past, An Unknown Identity - Novel Explores One Woman's Struggle to Discover the Truth About her Real Father

ST. LOUIS, Nov. 10, 2003 (PRIMEZONE) -- Lorraine Williams has struggled with her father's unexplained rejection since childhood. When he dies, a web of deception is revealed. Darnail's `The Child in the Mirror' (now available through 1stBooks), tells the story of Lorraine's search for identity, a brush with revenge and a nationally televised paternity test.

Even at her father's funeral she questions whether the deceased man is truly her father. After a lifetime of alienation and confusion, she contemplates killing herself and her so-called siblings with a hidden gun at the cemetery. She continues to struggle with emotional disorders caused by a constant search for answers to questions she was never allowed ask.

A national talk show host later receives a fateful letter, prompting an on camera paternity test that discloses the truth about Lorraine's identity.

Darnail said she wrote The Child in the Mirror for fatherless children, especially females, who are outcast from society and have no rights to medical or family history. It's a story for any parent unsure of their own identity or their child's, and it is also for those who are unsure of whether to reveal their children's true parentage.

A gripping story based on true events, Darnail's novel is a story that proves children of dysfunctional families can overcome their hardships and thrive.

Darnail collaborated with paternity expert Allen Gelb on this work. She is one of the oldest black women to have a paternity test conducted on national television, Darnail states. A native of Cleveland, she holds degrees in education from the University of Cincinnati. This is her first published novel.
