Buffalo Technology Announces its Network Storage Server for Consumer and SOHO Markets

The Product Stores Rich Media and Can Be Used as a Print and Filer Server. It is the First Network Server Solution to Break the Price Barrier for its Target Market

LAS VEGAS, Nov. 17, 2003 (PRIMEZONE) -- Buffalo Technology, a global leader in the design, development and manufacturing of networking solutions for home, SOHO and SMBs, today introduced LinkStation(tm) (HD-H120LAN)- a network storage center geared toward the home/SOHO markets.

The latest addition to Buffalo's sophisticated line of wired and wireless network products is designed to store media files such as videos, photos and music and can also be used as a file and print server. It is the only product of its kind that is reasonably priced to fit the technology and budget needs of consumers and small businesses.

"Technology demands are increasing on a daily basis for both home and small business networks as is the need for an affordable, feature-rich storage/server solution," stated Morikazu Sano, vice president of Buffalo Technology's Networking Division. "An office with 10-15 people is too small for an established file server, but too big to not have one. Home users with two or more computers and one printer need the ability to seamlessly share the printer and digital memoirs throughout the house. LinkStation is the ideal network solution for these customers because it's simple, robust and most importantly, extremely cost effective."

The LinkStation is a plug-and-play network storage center with a pre-formatted 120GB hard drive that connects directly into a network. It can be used wirelessly when connected to an AirStationTM or other manufacturer's access point and is compatible with both PC and Macintosh computers. The product features throughput speeds of up to 72.5Mbps and contains a 200MHz processor. Additional hard drives can be added for storage, and users can schedule backups.

LinkStation includes an Ethernet Interface (10/100Mbps) and two high-speed USB 2.0 ports. The product features a capacity indicator light, which lets users know when disk space is almost full. The built-in power supply and "auto-off" feature allow less power consumption. The power can also be left "on" so users can access the network and/or network printers at any time. Administrators have the ability set up full user or group file permissions. The product's ability to run multiple streams allows users to download and run media simultaneously. It's attractive, slim, and flexible design nicely compliments any network environment.

Backed by a limited two-year warranty and toll-free 24/7 technical support, the LinkStation network storage center (HD-H120LAN) will be available January 2004 at a very affordable street price of $299.
