Anoto Functionality Powers New HP Forms Automation System

LUND, Sweden, Nov. 19, 2003 (PRIMEZONE) -- Yesterday, during Comdex in Las Vegas, HP launched HP Forms Automation System (HP FAS), a solution enabled by Anoto technology. HP's new solution will significantly improve forms based business processes for medium and large enterprises. The HP FAS will be available in North America and Western Europe in November 2003.

"HP's launch of their HP Forms Automation System is a major step forward for Anoto in the Enterprise market. HP brings a wealth of experience in providing system solutions and a powerful global channel to serve this customer segment," said Orjan Johansson, CEO at Anoto Group. "A key differentiator is HP's printing technology that allows their solution to use standard HP LaserJet printers for the printing of the forms." The HP FAS will help HP's customers to save significant time and money. It is easy to deploy, simple to use and provides a seamless integration into the Enterprise back-end. Vertical markets that may benefit most from this technology include banking/insurance, healthcare, manufacturing and organizations in the public sector. "HP's vision is to make the paper smart," said Eric Chaniot, vice president of HP Digital Pen & Paper. "Combining HP printing technology and Anoto technology, we are transforming the paper into the cheapest and still real-time data entry device. We are basically replacing a computer screen with standard paper!" The idea of a paperless office is still not a reality. The main barriers for adoption are high costs and customer implementation issues. By 2004, more than 100 billion forms will still be used by U.S. companies. The average cost per form printing is 5 cents, yet the processing of those forms (data entry, etc.) costs companies on average 90 cents per form. HP FAS will deliver less than one-third the cost of traditional forms processing and will reduce processing times from weeks to minutes.

"HP FAS will lead to major advances for Anoto Functionality in the Enterprise market. Their solution is targeting areas where Anoto Functionality can ad significant value. We believe that the HP relation will be a significant growth driver for Anoto in 2004 and beyond," said Orjan Johansson.

The HP Forms Automation System consists of HP Digital Pen 200, HP Workflow Connect 200, the HP Transaction Pack 200, and HP LaserJet printers.
