Northrop Grumman Awarded $175 Million for Air Force Security

RESTON, Va., Nov. 19, 2003 (PRIMEZONE) -- Northrop Grumman Corporation's (NYSE:NOC) Mission Systems sector has received a delivery order valued at $175 million to provide advanced security systems to protect U.S. Air Force locations worldwide.

Under this delivery order, Northrop Grumman Mission Systems will procure, stage, ship, install and test a wide variety of advanced technologies to help the Air Force protect its domestic and overseas assets.

The Northrop Grumman Mission Systems' delivery order was awarded by the Air Force Electronic Systems Center at Hanscom Air Force Base, Mass., under the $498 million Integrated Base Defense Security Systems (IBDSS) contract announced in September.

"This delivery order provides the Air Force a significant step towards achieving a comprehensive security platform to protect its worldwide assets," says Pat Camacho, director of the Integrated Physical Security Solutions business unit of the Mission Systems sector's Tactical Systems Division.

Most of the work on the contract will be performed at Tactical Systems Division's facility in Dominguez Hills, Calif.

"Air Force installations will now have the tools to better detect and assess threats at both standoff and tactical distances," added Dan Verwiel, Northrop Grumman program manager for IBDSS.

Northrop Grumman believes this delivery order will provide the baseline for future IBDSS efforts. One of four contractors awarded IBDSS contracts, Northrop Grumman has supported the Air Force's Force Protection Directorate since 1996.

Primary subcontractors supporting Northrop Grumman are Sensor Technologies and Systems (Scottsdale, Ariz.), Engineered Support Systems (St. Louis, Mo.), Telephonics Corporation (Farmingdale, N.Y.), Thales Communications (Clarksburg, Md.) and FLIR Systems (Portland, Ore.).

Northrop Grumman Mission Systems, based in Reston, Va., is a global integrator of complex, mission-enabling systems and services for defense, intelligence and civil government markets. The sector's technology leadership and expertise spans areas such as strategic systems, including ICBMs; missile defense; intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance; command and control; technical services; and training.
