PHILADELPHIA, Nov. 19, 2003 (PRIMEZONE) -- Celebrating the Blue Cross RiverRink's 10th Anniversary Season, many NEW events have been added. In addition to special activities taking place at least once a month from November through February, there will be a live DJ every Friday and Saturday night, from 9 p.m. until 12 midnight and children's activities every weekend with FREE face painting or crafts.
Battle of the Bands presented by Y100
This year Sunday evenings at the Blue Cross RiverRink will come alive with the sounds of local bands competing at the 2003-2004 Blue Cross RiverRink Battle of the Bands presented by Y100. This nine-week competition is for bands looking for an opportunity to show off their talent. Winners will perform on-stage at a 2004 Summer Season event at Penn's Landing and possible radio airplay. The final concert on February 8 will showcase the winning band with a 90-minute performance. The Battle of the Bands will be presented on Sunday evenings from 6-9 p.m., November 30 through February 8.
Q102 Jingle Ball Pre-Party
On Friday December 12, hundreds of excited teens will pack the Blue Cross RiverRink for the Q102 Jingle Ball All-Access Pre-Party. The Q102 Jingle Ball, an annual concert at the Tweeter Center, stars some of today's hottest performers. Participants of the Q102 Jingle Ball All-Access Pre-Party, selected by the on-air talent, will view a private concert and participate in a question and answer session with one of the Jingle Ball musicians, Stacie Orrico.
Reels at the Rink
The Blue Cross RiverRink is now the premier location to view the hottest DVD's this winter. Reels at the Rink will include a series of DVD release parties including Pirates of the Caribbean on Saturday November 29, and Freaky Friday on December 19. Special discounts and themed crafts will be featured for each release and screening. Check www.riverrink.com for screening times and details.
Skate Squad
The Blue Cross RiverRink Skate Squad will be seen reaching out to the communities all over the Philadelphia region this winter. The Skate squad will involve guests in activities such as interactive games and distribute giveaways and coupons. The Skate Squad will attend local events including Kixx Games, Q102's Jingle Ball, the Stomp in the New Year Party prior to the Merriam Theater's Broadway show STOMP. The Skate Squad will also accompany Rinky the Penguin mascot for visits at local schools and other events in Philadelphia and the surrounding communities throughout the season.
Philly Loves Army Navy
In celebration of the Army/Navy game, the Blue Cross RiverRink is throwing a tailgating party on Saturday, December 6. All day, the Skate Guards will be wearing Army and Navy sweatshirts and a half price admission will be offered to Military personnel and college students with proper ID. The Philly Loves Army Navy Tailgating party kicks off at 3 p.m. with 96.5 The Point on hand with games and prizes, crafts and activities for kids, military themed movies on the video wall, a broadcast of the game from 4 p.m. - 8 p.m. and free nachos and wings.
All season-long, new initiatives will be launched to enhance the regular programming at the Blue Cross RiverRink. Skating session hours are Monday to Thursday evenings only 6 p.m. - 9 p.m.; Friday and Saturday 12:30 - 2:30 p.m., 3 - 5:30 p.m., 6-8 p.m., 8:30 - 10:30 p.m., and 11 p.m. -1 a.m.; Sunday 12:30 - 2:30 p.m., 3 - 5:30 p.m., and 6 - 9 p.m. Holiday Hours are 10 a.m. - noon, 3 - 5:30 p.m., 6 - 8 p.m., 8:30 - 10:30 p.m. with additional hours on Friday and Saturday from 11 p.m. - 1 a.m. Special Sled Skating Sessions for people with disabilities are every Saturday from 9:30 a.m.- 11:30 a.m.
