Somehow it Works -- New Book Details History of Presidential Elections

WILMINGTON, Del., Nov. 19, 2003 (PRIMEZONE) -- Somehow It Works: A Story of U.S. Presidential Elections (now available through 1stBooks), by John L. McCloskey, is the story of the U.S. presidential elections beginning with the first in 1789.

It is not a textbook, but an enthralling story that discards the minor details surrounding elections. The book places emphasis on events of the presidents' administrations. McCloskey focuses on the notable and important events in the re-election bids of the presidents versus rival opponents, who stood to gain on the misfortunes of the incumbents.

While he considers his book an apt source of information for all Americans, McCloskey sees Somehow It Works essential for all school age children.

"(T)he chief target is the school person who would undoubtedly find it essential to clear understanding of our presidential elections and which would undoubtedly translate into better grades. This is the type of book that I would place in the hands of every student...and if I were a parent of a school age person today, I would insist on my child having a copy," McCloskey says.

Somehow It Works is an interesting historical peek at the foundation of American politics and helps readers understand politics and election issues.

McCloskey was a history teacher for 34 years. He served in World War II and received his bachelor's degree from the University of Scranton, Pa., and his master's degree with an administrative certificate from the University of Delaware. He resides in Wilmington, Del., with his wife.
