Finding Answers in Brian's World -- New Book Offers True Stories About Growing Up

LAUREL, Del., Nov. 24, 2003 (PRIMEZONE) -- Growing up isn't easy. As he approaches his teens, Brian learns just how complicated life can be. The new book, Brian's World! Collection of Short Stories (now available through 1stBooks), by Beverly Savage Ogundare, is a compilation of three true stories about a young boy learning about life and the people there to catch him if he falls.

Focusing on the old saying, "It takes a village to raise a child," Brian's World! details the life of a growing boy and the people who care for him. Ogundare pens three true stories about a young African-American boy on the verge of his teenage years. Three stories, "Brian," "Why Does Mommy Have to Work?" and "All in a Day," depict the different problems that arise in this boy's life. As questions come up, he finds answers through those who are there to guide him to manhood: his family, community and school system.

Brian's World! provides everyday life lessons through serious moments and the humorous incidents of life. Ogundare also includes three poems about parenting. Two of the poems deal with the importance of a father's influence, while the last poem deals with a mother's role.

Brian's World! is a heartwarming and humorous look at the life of a child and the many people who influence him.

Ogundare finds being a mother to her five children a very rewarding experience. Her family loves to hike and vacation together and listen to her husband's stories of Africa. Brian's World! is her first book.
