A New Movement: Essentialism -- New Poetry Compilation Introduces Examples of New Literary Movement

UNION GROVE, Wis., December 4, 2003 (PRIMEZONE) -- Many poets write simply for themselves, unleashing their innermost revelations on paper. For poet Dale R. Roettgen, a main goal is to open doors for the reader. In his new book, Depth Perception (now available through 1stBooks), he seeks to introduce readers to Essentialism through poetry. To explain this literary and lifestyle momentum, he offers countless ideas on human existence.

Essentialism's premise states that people cannot find inner freedom or understanding unless they've had a wide array of life experiences. Depth Perception offers many perceptions on life, giving readers a chance to interpret and gain knowledge they might lack. "The idea of progression through limitless expedition is not only encouraged, but vital to developing essential understanding of one's self," he explains.

Once gained, these insights become a part of a person's being. Only then, may they be reflected outwardly. This, Roettgen writes, is the most important part of Essentialism.

Though the book is titled Depth Perception, only the first 25 poetic works actually make up the "Depth Perception" collection. Untitled so that readers can interpret them individually, these poems include topics such as love, death, pain, endurance, sex, loss and nature.

The second half of the book includes another 25 poems, which make up the "Verse from the Darkroom" collection. Here, Roettgen hopes to be a catalyst for personal growth, exposing the reader to a variety of concepts. Unlike the "Depth Perception" section, these poems are much less bold and require introspection. In fact, he writes, these works "derive from the triplicate meaning of the title ["Verse from the Darkroom"] itself": they were written in a dark room; written from the dark regions of the author's heart; or written from a "center of immense development," meant to assist readers in developing their own "depth perception."

"There are things perceived, and there are visions still waiting to be discovered; and it takes Depth Perception to get you there, where you need to progress," Roettgen writes.

Depth Perception is the author's first published book.
